Suncoast Science Center Faulhaber Fab Lab Race Competition

Our friends at the Suncoast Science Center Faulhaber Fab Lab are hosting the Inaugural RC Custom Car Open Race this Saturday, March 5th in Sarasota, FL. 

Faulhaber fab labThis Sold Out event has 60 K-12 grade level teams registered, representing 15 public, charter, private and home schools in Sarasota County. Over 200 kids and their families will be coming to the Suncoast Science Center on Saturday, March 5th starting at 9:30am to show off and race their custom designed remote control cars.

Over the past 6 weeks the Faulhaber Fab Lab has offered weekly workshops on creating and implementing designs using software and the Faulhaber Fab Lab machines, such as a 3D printer and laser cutter. The Fab Lab has also hosted guest speaker lectures on automotive engineering design principles to help the teams gain the skills and knowledge needed to customize their cars for race day.

The goal of the competition is to test participants on their ability to make adjustments to a provided radio controlled car in order to improve speed, drivability, and general attractiveness.

Race day will consist of a Drag Race to test modifications to improve speed of the car, a Lap Race to test function and maneuverability enhancements, and a Design Competition so the kids can show off their innovative designs as well as their artistic vision in hopes of winning cash and prizes like summer program scholarships from Ringling College of Art and Design!

Races Begin at 10:00am with Award Ceremony scheduled for 1:00pm. We hope to see you there!
