Brakes for DC Motors

Brakes from MICROMOMICROMO's brakes are permanent magnet, single face brakes for use with our DC Motors. Braking takes place when the motor is in an unpowered condition. The brake acts as a holding brake preventing rotation of the shaft at standstill or with the motor power turned off. MICROMO recommends the application of lower voltage to the brake after it has been energized for the purpose or reducing heat loss. The DC Motor brake is not recommended for braking a rotating motor shaft. The DC Motor brakes may only be assembled with motors at MICROMO.

DC Motor Tachogenerators & Motor-Tacho Combinations

In MICROMO's DC-Tachogenerators, the commutator and brushes are made of a high quality gold alloy. This results in a very low, constant transition-resistance, minimum starting friction and virtually insensitivity to environmental conditions. The linearity between rotational speed and generator-voltage makes these tachogenerators an ideal servo-component for speed indication and control.

MICROMO's DC-Motor Tachogenerator combinations are based on the FAULHABER skew wound rotor coil. The low rotor inertia and no cogging result in unmatched acceleration and deceleration times. The patented single shaft commutation system increases torsional rigidity thereby increasing the resonant frequency. Excellent tacho signals ensure precise supervision and regulation of speed even after long standstill intervals.

Technology

Motor and tachogenerator feature the patented skew-wound iron-less rotors. The mono-axis design with the two commutator systems, facing each other in a patented arrangement, mounted on a single solid shaft, has excellent torsion characteristics and the highest frequency response possible.

Commutation System

The DC-micromotors have multi segmented precious metal or copper commutators and multi fingered precious metal or copper impregnated graphite brushes. The motor tachogenerators have commutators and brushes made of gold alloy to assure a high quality output signal and provide a minimized but constant contact resistance as well as low sensitivity to environmental changes.

Direction of Rotation

All motor-tachogenerator units are designed for clockwise or counter-clockwise rotation. Direction of rotation viewed from the front face, positive voltage on + terminal or red lead gives clockwise rotation.

Encoders

All DC-Motor-Tacho units can be offered in combination with encoders. Please see the data sheets for this information.

Gearheads

All DC-Motor-Tacho units can be combined with gearheads. Please see the datasheets for this information.
